These products are made in India from 100% recycled aluminium, saving 90% of the energy when compared to using new aluminium from bauxite.
The spent aluminium products are melted down and poured into moulds created in sand - this is a time-honoured tradition in this area of India.
Once cooled, the sand mould is removed, the aluminium is polished and the enamel is applied by hand. Finally a food safe lacquer is applied.
The supplier in Northern India was established by two brothers in 1992 and now employs over 100 men and women on permanent contracts all working in-house.
Nobody under 18 is employed and men and women are paid the same. In addition, and unusually for India, sick pay, paid breaks and contributions to children's education are part of the system here.
Safe for cold foods.
Not dishwasher safe.
