Fair Trade Face Mask Double Sided

Price:  £3.00Earn 3 Loyalty Points

When the coronavirus hit, workers around the world were suddenly told to stay at home in lockdown to control the spread of the virus. Some - mostly in developed countries - were given state money to cover their living expenses. Most workers in the global south, including fair trade workers, did not have recourse to this. Even for those workers who could work from home demand for their goods evaporated overnight. Fair trade suppliers have been busy creating these masks as a way to keep their artisans in work and to discourage the use of medical grade face masks or single use face masks.

So far with your help we have supported artisans in Cambodia, Nepal and India. These are made in India and are double sided so you can change your look day to day. Don't forget to wash your mask before turning it the other way out! The artisans have used excess fabric to make the masks so they are environmentally friendly as well as fair trade. However this does also mean we can't guarantee which pattern you'll get, only that one side will be beige, brown or cream and the other will be blue.

These reversible masks are made from two layers of super soft cotton with two elastic loops which go around the head rather than the ears. Some people find this more comfortable and people who use a hearing aid might also benefit from this design.

Masks measure approx 14ccm high and 20cm wide.

We are offering these masks at cost price which means that we do not make any money from the crisis, but our suppliers have enough work to support themselves and their families.

While rules differ depending on where you are in the UK it is mandatory to wear a face covering on public transport and in various other indoor settings including shops.

Wearing a mask protects others and helps reduce the spread of the virus

Please remember that use of face masks is not intended to replace other recommended measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 such as social distancing, washing your hands and refraining from touching your face.

Wash after every use at 30 degrees.

Just Trade was founded in June 2006, initially to provide a route to market for Zoe Creations, a struggling fair trade project in the shantytowns of Lima, Peru. The company was born out of first hand contact with real people in the developing world and the recognition that in order for such projects to be sustainable they need a long-term route to market for their goods.

Combining traditional craft skills and materials with expert knowledge of contemporary jewellery, we have developed ranges of unique, characterful pieces with strong appeal in the European market. From exquisite crocheted silverwork to beautifully carved tagua pendants, our distinctive products are made with care and skill from locally-sourced and ethical materials where possible.

We work collaboratively on the design of our products with the artisans who make them. By teaching the fundamentals of design, we give the artisans that we work with the tools to take an active part in the product development process, encouraging a sense of pride and ownership in their work.

We believe this collaborative approach makes for better products, and a happier, more fulfilled workforce. Together, these make for a sustainable business model.

Plus, it’s fun. We organise competitions (what better way to find the perfect design for a crocheted bee?), and encourage the artisans to try new things and come forward with their own product ideas. New skills are learned and shared, enabling the projects to grow as knowledge spreads among the communities.

We are a small home based business.

We keep all stock at home, so when you place an order, we don't have to travel to collect or package your items. It's all done in our home office.

We package the majority of our goods in recycled plastic mailing bags. Originally we started doing this to protect against rainwater, but now it means you have the option to disinfect the package when it arrives in your home.

We have been strictly observing the government's advice and have been socially distancing - staying in apart from for essential trips - since 16 March.

As far as we can be sure, nobody who lives in or has visited our home has been ill since the outbreak hit the UK.

We use the Royal Mail and very occasionally Parcelforce for deliveries. We have a "Drop & Go" account so we don't have to wait in line or get within 2 metres of anyone when we post out your goods. As long as our local post offices are open, and we remain well, we will get your orders out. Like a lot of essential services, the Royal Mail is under pressure with staff self-isolating, so your parcel may not arrive as quickly as you would normally expect, None of this is normal, but we'll get through it together.

Artisans and producers in low income countries rely on fair trade to support their families. Fair trade has helped build some resilience into the communities we help in the form of better hygiene and sanitation, better nutrition and healthcare support. Most of the countries where our goods originate have banned exports and imports to limit the spread of the virus. This means workers are unable to get their work to us, and in some cases their workshops are closed. Our suppliers are continuing to pay for and place orders to keep their producers going through what we hope is a very short-lived period in our lives. In contrast, high street fashion companies in the UK have cancelled $1.5bn in orders with garment factories in Bangladesh, putting thousands of low paid women out of work.

The need for fair trade has never been clearer. Thank you for your support and stay safe and well.

We have received the "Good To Go" mark from National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Read more about it in our blogpost

The Royal Mail's last day for guaranteed Christmas delivery is Monday 21 December 2019. Any orders you place with us on or before 20 December will be posted First Class and should get there before Christmas.

Non-UK Customers:

Customers outside of the UK will have their order shipped by Royal Mail's International Standard service. The cost for delivery depends on the weight of the goods you are purchasing, and ranges from £2 to £20 - you can see the exact cost of shipping in the Shopping Basket before you checkout.

We recommend you order before 30 November if you require any items for Christmas delivery outside the UK.

We are confident that you will be delighted with your purchase, however to ensure that you are completely satisfied Accessory Fair offers a "no quibbles" 14-day returns policy.

If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason then you can return it to us for a refund or replacement.

Extended Christmas Returns

We realise that our normal 14-day returns period isn't much use if you're buying a Christmas present for someone a month before the big day. What if they don't like it, or it doesn't fit??

For this reason we have extended our standard returns period for Christmas gifts, and you now have until the 8th January 2021 to return any gifts that you have purchased.

And don't forget that this is a 'no quibbles' guarantee - so if, for any reason, it isn't suitable, feel free to send it back to us for a refund or replacement.
